4/30 Minor League Report! GARCIA

Binghamton 8, Portland 3

Emmanuel Garcia broke out of a 6 for 37 slump in a huge way, going 3 for 4 with 3 runs, leading the Mets to a convincing 8-3 win over the Sea Dogs today. Josh Thole, Shawn Bowman and Mark Kiger also had multi hit games for the Mets, while Ruben Tejada (0 for 3, BB, 2 Ks, .222), Lucas Duda (0 for 4, K, .292), and Carl Loadenthal (0 for 4, K, .270) took 0-fers.

Ryan Coultas got the start tonight, and was effective in his 5 innings, allowing just 6 hits and a run (on a solo homer). Despite entering the game with a 4 run lead, Roy Merritt somehow got a save, going 1.2 innings for his 9th of the season.

St. Lucie 7, Sarasota 5

Carlos Guzman's walkoff 2 run homer in the 10th provided the Mets with their second straight extra inning victory tonight, 7-5 against the Reds. The story of the game, however, is the continued resurgance of Ike Davis, who had 2 more hits tonight, both doubles, and is batting .371 over his last 10 games, with 6 2b and 8 XBH. The 2 thru 5 hitters in the Mets order were a combined 10 for 23 with 4 2b, 2 HR and 5 RBI. Greg Veloz (0 for 4, BB, K, .229, in a long 6 for 43 slump) and Brahiam Maldonado (0 for 4, 3 Ks, .224) took 0-fers.

Eric Niesen started tonight as was good over his 6 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs (1 earned, thanks to a Bouchard error). Nick Carr blew the save (thanks to a Reese Havens error, his 10th), but got the win with 4 innings of piggyback relief. Carr has rebounded strongly so far this month off what was a total disaster of a season in 2008, he's posted a 1.69 era in 16 innings this month, with 11 hits allowed in 16 innings, and 17 Ks to go along with 10 walks.

Savannah 7, Greenville 4

Eric Beaulac started today and was roughed up for 3 runs on 4 hits (including a homer) and 3 walks in 3.2 innings, but a piggybacking Kyle Allen matched his best outing of the season, working 4.1 innings, allowing just a run on 2 hits, striking out 7 to pick up his first win. Rhiner Cruz got the final 2 outs for his 4th save.

The top 4 in the order for the Gnats (Fernandez, Marte, Flores, Satin) were a combined 0 for 16 with 4 walks and 7 Ks, and they scored 2 runs (one each for Marte and Satin). Raul Reyes (0 for 4, 2 Ks, .208) also took an 0-fer. Sean Ratliff and Jean Luc Blaquiere had multi hit games, Blaquiere went 4 for 4 and drove in 4.

4/29 Minor League Report! Duda, DAVIS, Ratliff!

Buffalo 0, Rochester 1

I'm not sure what else I can say at this point. Pitch well and lose, pitch poorly and lose, score 4 and give up 5, score 0 and give up 1...it's just a sad sad situation up in Buffalo right now. The Bisons were held to 7 hits and 3 walks today, and went 0 for 5 with RISP, leaving 8 men on base in their loss. Willy Mo Pena and Jesus Feliciano had multi hit games, while the top 3 in the order (Cory Sullivan, Andy Green, Fernando Martinez) were a combined 0 for 11. Mike Nickeas and Jose Coronado also took 0-fers. Nelson Figueroa pitched brilliantly for 7 innings, allowing just 1 run, enough for the loss.

lf Fernando Martinez 0 for 3, BB, 2 Ks, .233
dh Willy Mo Pena 2 for 4, K, .500
3b Mike Lamb 1 for 4, .143
1b Nick Evans 1 for 3, BB, K, .102
rf Jesus Feliciano 3 for 4, .283
Nelson Figueroa 7 IP, 4 H, ER, 2 Ks, 2.25 era, 84:59:25, 10:9:2
Elmer Dessens IP, H, 0.82 era, 9:6:3, 1:1:0

Binghamton 2, Portland 6

Jose Sanchez has been having a very rough start to his 2009 season, so much so that tonight's outing (3 earned in 5 innings) served to lower his ERA a full run and change from 9.88 to 8.68.

It was a very frustrating night for the offense, as they had 8 hits and 3 walks, but in a performance the big club could be proud of, went 0 for 11 with RISP and left 11 on base. Josh Thole, Lucas Duda and Jon Malo had multi hit games, while Emmanuel Garcia (0 for 4, run, BB, .243), Shawn Bowman (0 for 5, .250), Mark Kiger (0 for 4, 3 Ks, .214), and Carl Loadenthal (0 for 4, 2 Ks, .288) took 0-fers.

ss Ruben Tejada 1 for 5, 2 Ks, .233
c Josh Thole 2 for 4, 2b, BB, .382
1b Lucas Duda 2 for 3, 2b, BB, .318
2b Jon Malo 2 for 4, run, .500

Adam Bostick IP, 4 H, 2 ER, K, HR, 3 era, 1:1:1

St. Lucie 1, Jupiter 1 thru 12.5 innings

Angel Calero went 6 strong innings, followed by 5 terrific innings from Brant Rustich, but the offense has done nothing all night, outside of a run in the 9th to tie it, Ike Davis doubled and scored on Francisco Pena's single. That's where we are, 1-1 in the 13th. I'll edit this post with a full game recap when it goes final.

St. Lucie 2, Jupiter 1 in 14 innings

As I told you earlier, Angel Calero and Brant Rustich were the majority of the story for the Mets tonight, they combined for 11 incredible innings, scattering 4 hits and a run (Calero's) between them, each struck out 7. But it was Ike Davis who ended up as the main story, he doubled and scored the tying run in the 9th, then singled and scored the winning run in the 14th, ending with a 3 for 6 day. The Mets had just 5 hits, but made 4 of the 5 count heavily. Francisco Pena's only hit drove in the Mets first run, Reese Havens' only hit drove in the Mets second run. Matias Carrillo got the win by getting the final out in the top of the 14th.

2b Greg Veloz 0 for 4, 2 BBs, K, .241
cf Kirk Nieuwenhuis 0 for 6, 2 Ks, .216
1b Ike Davis 3 for 6, 2 runs, 2b, K, .297
ss Reese Havens 1 for 6, 2b, RBI (walkoff), 2 Ks, .263
c Francisco Pena 1 for 4, RBI (tying, 9th), .196
rf Carlos Guzman 0 for 5, 2 Ks, .296
3b Matt Bouchard 0 for 5, 3 Ks, .111
lf Brahiam Maldonado 0 for 5, 2 Ks, .241
dh Hector Pellot 0 for 4, 3 Ks, .150
Angel Calero 6 IP, 3 H, ER, 2/7 BB/K, 1.23 era, 5:6:7
Brant Rustich 5 IP, H, BB, 1/7 BB/K, 1.38 era, 4:5:7
Jose De La Torre 1.2 IP, H, 2/1 BB/K, 4.35 era, 1:2:1
Emary Frederick IP, BB, K, 2.19 era, 0:1:1
Matias Carrillo 0.1 IP, BB, K, 5.06 era, W (1-1)

Between the two teams, there were 33 strikeouts (17 by the Mets, 16 by Jupiter), 33 of the 83 outs recorded by both teams were via strikeout.

Savannah 11, Greenville 7

Robert Carson has been alternating good outing-bad outing so far this year, and he had a strong bounceback outing tonight, going 6 strong, allowing 3 hits and 2 unearned runs (due to Jefry Marte's 10th error of the season). Wendy Rosa and Eric Turgeon combined to give up 5 runs in 2.2 innings, but Jimmy Johnson came in with the tying run at the plate and struck him out to end it, earning his first save.

The Gnats offense exploded tonight for 11 runs on 17 hits and 3 walks, they went a blistering 8 for 18 with RISP, and left 8 men on base. Wilmer Flores, Kai Gronauer (0 for 4, run, 2 RBI, 2 Ks, .214) and Juan Lagares were the only Gnats who didn't have multiple hits tonight.

rf Rafael Fernandez 2 for 5, 2 runs, 2b, RBI, BB, .268
3b Jefry Marte 2 for 5, run, RBI, K, .280

Couple questions from comments:

re: my Jordany Valdespin rant/meltdown:

Q: If I remember correctly, they did a similar thing with Jordan Abruzzo last year. He was batting .300 in St. Lucie and then he went down to Brooklyn.

Where is Abruzzo anyway?

Answer: Abruzzo was released by the Mets.

Q: long time no speak.
i have to ask you, what are your feelings on fmart at AAA? personally, i think he should have repeated at AA this year. when a guy like the cards brett wallace is still at AA, it makes me believe that the mets, as usual, are rushing fmart for no good reason....curious to hear your thoughts

Answer: He had spent the last 2 seasons in AA, and was coming off ripping the DWL (which in my eyes is AAA level) to shreds, so in my eyes, it was justified to have him open up in AAA. Brett Wallace was just drafted in 2008, and had just 49 ABs in AA during last season. Starting him in AA was the smart thing to do.

News on Valdespin - he was suspended, reason not given. You'd know if it was for PEDs, because the league announces it, so it's not that.

Jordany Valdespin vs The Career Never Was Scrub (Hint: Scrubs win in the Mets organization)

Warning: Excessive and pointless and needless abundant cursing (but it's soooo much fun!)

Um, wow. So much for the hope Jordany Valdespin gave us, and the fun first 3 weeks of the season we had trying to dig up information on him. Apparently hitting .385/.406/.615/1.021 isn't enough in the eyes of the Mets. What a fucking joke, he was booted to Extended Spring Training to make room for Jake fucking Eigsti, who's done precisely jack fucking shit in his career. Valdespin did more in 3 weeks for Savannah then Eigsti did in 150 ABs in 2008, and I'm NOT being facetious.

Valdespin 2009: .385/.406/.615/1.021 (25 for 65, 15 runs, 2 2b, 2 3b, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 3/10 BB/K)

Eigsti (WHO BLOWS!) 2008 Savannah: .253/.309/.347/.655 (38 for 150, 17 runs, 5 2b, 3 3b, HR, 10 RBI, 11/25 BB/K)

Clearly the scrub 25 year old (with a career .241/.300/.314/.614 line in 573 ABs) needs another shot at this level, and we cannot let the "who the heck is this 21 year old?" kid keep playing and see what we have. No, no clearly not. See - it's moves like this that make me think the directors of the minor leagues are cum guzzling piss drinking ass monkeys.

They did the same fucking shit with Jake Ruckle in 2006, he was flat out dominating the FSL at age 20 (1.60 era in 50.2 innings) - but because he was just "filling in", they demoted him to Brooklyn, DESPITE those numbers.

What the fuck. I mean What. The. Fuck.

4/28 Minor League Report! THOLE, DUDA, NIEUWENHUIS!

Binghamton 8, Portland 9

As one of my friends is fond of saying, it is better to fail spectacularly then succeed blandly (paraphrased). In that vein, I present to you Roy Merritt's first blown save, a spectactular 3 run bottom of the 9th. OK, all kidding aside, it was an ugly night for the pitchers, starting with Dylan Owen giving up 4 runs on 5 hits (including a homer) and 3 walks over 5.2 innings. Fernando Nieve gave up 2 runs in 1.1 innings before he and Josh Thole were both ejected in the 8th inning, setting the stage for Merritt's 9th.

The offense certainly came to life for the Mets, generating 14 hits and 6 walks, parlaying that into 8 runs. The Mets went 9 for 19 with RISP, and stranded 8 runners on base, but offense definitely wasn't the issue tonight. Josh Thole, Lucas Duda, Jon Malo and DJ Wabick had multi hit games, while Carl Loadenthal (0 for 4, run, BB, K, .309) was the only one to go hitless.

St. Lucie 4, Jupiter 3

Stephen Clyne vultured a win tonight, stealing it from Scott Shaw, who started and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings. Clyne blew the save allowing a run in the top of the 9th, and then was the beneficiary as the Mets scored one in the bottom half for the win.

The Mets had 9 hits and drew 3 walks in going 2 for 6 with RISP. They left 8 men on base. Greg Veloz (0 for 5, 2 Ks, .253), Seth Williams (0 for 4, K, .265) and Rafael Arroyo (0 for 2, BB, .150) took 0-fers for the Mets, while Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Carlos Guzman had multi hit games.

Jeff Kaplan was decent, but not great tonight, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits (including a homer) and 2 walks in 5 innings, taking the loss.

The Gnats pounded out 9 hits against the Greenville starter (Casey Kelly) in 5 innings, but then were no hit against Fabian Williamson in 4 innings. Juan Lagares took an 0-fer and a golden sombrero, the only 0-fer in the Gnats lineup. Jefry Marte had the only multi hit game for the Gnats.

4/27 Minor League Report!

Buffalo 1, Syracuse 7

Freddy Garcia's turn tonight. Boy this is getting ugly, as ugly as the St. Lucie Mets last April (remember they lost 500 in a row?). The Bisons, in addition to getting a miserable outing from Garcia (who is now contemplating retirement), had just 2 hits, a homer from Cory Sullivan (1 for 4, run, HR, RBI, .231) leading off the game, and a single from Jose Coronado (1 for 3, BB, .109). About the only good news for the Bisons is that it is statistically impossible for Nick Evans to ever end up at .000 (though he is trying).

St. Lucie 1, Jupiter 2 in 11 innings

The Mets committed 4 errors, and allowed 2 unearned runs in a 2-1 loss to the Hammerheads. Jacob Elgsti committed the game loser in the top of the 11th, but it was a passed ball by Francisco Pena and then a missed catch by Greg Veloz which set the stage for Jupiter's first run of the game.

Jenrry Mejia started and was very good over 5 innings, allowing 5 hits and that UER, striking out 5. after 2 scoreless innings from Nick Waechter and Jose De La Torre, Emary Frederick pitched a scoreless 10th, before Elgsti's error earned him a tough L.

The Mets faced the practically unhittable Kyle Winters tonight, who over his first 4 FSL starts this year, has allowed a grand total of 18 hits and 1 run over 26 innings, for a 0.35 era. Tonight he and 2 relievers allowed just 6 hits and a run to the Mets, who went 0 for 3 with RISP and left 6 men on base. Jeurys Familia had a rough outing today, giving up single runs in each of the first 3 innings (2 earned, due to 4 Gnats errors, Kai Groanuer, Familia, Luis Alen and Jefry Marte), and a passed ball (on Alen). Rhiner Cruz gave up 3 runs in his 1.2 innings, putting the game out of reach.

The Gnats had 7 hits and drew 2 walks, and went 2 for 8 with RISP, leaving 8 on base. 4/26 Minor League Report!

Buffalo 0, Syracuse 4

It was Dillon Gee's turn to get shellacked today, as the Bisons lost yet again, their 14th loss in 16 games. Gee gave up 4 runs on 9 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings, taking his 3rd loss. Jon Switzer and Carlos Muniz each pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief, but the Bisons mustered nothing on offense, with just 7 hits and 3 walks. The team was 0 for 7 with RISP and left 9 on base. Michael Antonini turned in a so called quality start (6 innings, 3 earned), and 4 relievers held the Fisher Cats to just 2 hits over the final 3 innings, as the Mets won 4-3 and pulled to within a game of New Hampshire in the division.

The Mets had 7 hits and 5 walks, en route to scoring 4 runs, but they were 1 for 7 with RISP and left 8 on base. All the hits came from 3 players, Ruben Tejada (2 for 5, 2b, 3 RBI, .235), Shawn Bowman (2 for 3, 2 runs, HR, RBI, .270), and Carl Loadenthal (3 for 4, run, .333). Everyone else took 0-fers.

Each of the Met pitchers tonight gave up a run, with Emary Frederick surrendering the decider with 1 down in the 9th, after walking two and allowing a walkoff double. Brad Holt and Nick Carr each went 4 innings allowing a run (Carr's was unearned due to a Zach Lutz error). Holt allowed 4 hits, Carr allowed one, while walking 2.

The Mets offense had just 5 hits and 3 walks, and were 0 for 7 with RISP, leaving 6 men on base. Their only runs came on a Carlos Guzman 2 run homer in the 7th inning, which briefly tied the game. Guzman had the only multi hit game tonight, while the top 4 in the Mets order (Veloz, Nieuwenhuis, Havens, Lutz) were a combined 0 for 12 with 5 Ks. Seth Williams also took an 0-fer (0 for 3, K, .296).

Manuel Olivares allowed 2 runs in 3.1 innings of long relief, and Jimmy Johnson finished it off with 2 scoreless.

The Gnats had just 6 hits on the day, and went 2 for 4 with RISP, leaving 4 on base. Jean Luc Blaquiere (0 for 4, 2 Ks, .176), Josh Satin (0 for 4, .358) and Stefan Welch (0 for 3, .000) took 0-fers.

4/25 Minor League Report! Fernandez!

Buffalo 5, Syracuse 6

Another game, another loss, another very rough outing for Jon Niese. Niese lasted just 3.2 innings today, allowing 4 hits and 4 runs (3 earned, due to a Michel Abreu error), his ERA through 4 starts stands at a very inflated 8.44. Kyle Snyder took the loss, allowing 2 runs in 2.1 innings.

Offensively, every regular except Jason Cooper (0 for 3, K, .214) had a hit, with Jon Malo and Argenis Reyes recording multi hit games. The Bisons are now 2-13 on the season, and 12 games behind Scranton in the division.

Eric Brown had a very rough outing for the BMets today, surrendering 5 runs on 7 hits in 4 innings to take the loss, as the Mets fell 7-2, dropping them to 8-6 on the season, 2 games behind the division leading Fisher Cats.

The Mets had just 5 hits and 3 walks on the day, going 2 for 6 with RISP and leaving 4 on base. Lucas Duda (0 for 3, BB, K, .273), Caleb Stewart (0 for 3, BB, .147), Mike Nickeas (0 for 2, BB, .077) and Matt Bouchard (0 for 3, K, .164) took 0-fers.

Eric Niesen has been a victim of little to no run support early this season. Despite a sparkling 2.81 era, he is 0-2 to start 2009. And yeah, while I still think he's a reliever masquerading as a starter, he's pitched much better this year then he did at any point in 2008. Tonight he went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits (including a homer), striking out 6. Stephen Clyne allowed an unearned run in his 2 innings of relief, providing the final margin of defeat.

The Mets had 7 hits and drew 3 walks, but were just 1 for 5 with RISP and left 8 runners on. Reese Havens, Ike Davis and Rafael Arroyo (0 for 4, 3 Ks, .167) took 0-fers, while Jacob Elgsti had a multi hit game. The Mets dropped to 7-8 on the season, and are 3 games behind division leading Fort Myers.

Much like Robert Carson yesterday, while Kyle Allen's start looks bad on the surface, digging deeper into the numbers yields the fact that Allen allowed just 1 hit over the first 4.1 innings, before running into massive 5th inning trouble. Allen allowed 4 hits, a walk and 4 runs after that, recording just one more out along the way (understandable, since this was his longest outing of the season). Eric Beaulac took the loss, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) over his 3 innings of relief.

The Gnats pounded out 11 hits and drew 3 walks, but despite scoring 5 runs, they were 3 for 12 with RISP and left 8 men on base. Eric Campbell (0 for 5, run, 2 Ks, .254) and Stefan Welch (making his A debut; 0 for 4, 2 Ks) took 0-fers, while Rafael Fernandez, Josh Satin and Juan Lagares (hitting 6-7-8 in the order), all had multi hit games (combining to go 7 for 11 with 2 2b and 3 RBI). The loss dropped the Gnats to 10-5, good for a 1 game lead over both Lexington and Greenville in the division.

4/24 Minor League Report! THOLE, VALDESPIN!

Buffalo 0-3-1, Syracuse 4-9-1

Nick Evans is truly having a disasterous season so far, after his 0 for 4 tonight, he is now 5 for 53 (.094) with 18 Ks and a nifty .509 OPS. The Bisons had just 3 hits on the night (Jesus Feliciano, Jon Malo and Brandon Knight). Everyone else took 0-fers in another ugly offensive showing. Knight took the loss despite giving up 3 runs in 7 innings, he fell to 0-2. Eddie Kunz gave up a run in his inning of work, and Jon Switzer finished off the game.

Josh Thole went 4 for 6 and scored a run in the decisive 2 run 13th as the Mets outlasted the Fisher Cats 4-2. Emmanuel Garcia also had a multi hit game, while Shawn Bowman (0 for 6, 3 Ks, .250) and Mark Kiger (0 for 4, BB, 2 Ks, .250) took 0-fers.

Ryan Coultas started for the Mets, and worked into the 7th inning (faced one batter in the 7th), he was charged with 2 runs on 7 hits in 6+ innings, taking a ND. John Madden allowed Coultas' lone IHR to score in his inning of work, he was tagged with a BS. Edgar Alfonzo, Tim McNab, Nick Abel and Roy Merritt worked 6 shutout innings in relief, allowing 2 hits, striking out 5. Abel got the win, Merritt his 7th save.

Angel Calero pitched very well tonight, giving up just a run on 2 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings, but that was enough for him to be tagged with a loss, as the Mets offense generated just a run on 7 hits themselves. Brant Rustich gave up 2 runs (1 earned) in his 3 innings of work, as he works up his pitch count.

Greg Veloz (0 for 5, .288), Zach Lutz (0 for 4, K, .271), and Brahiam Maldonado (0 for 4, K, .256) all took 0-fers, while Carlos Guzman had the only multi hit game.

Savannah 5-11-1, Rome 8-14-2

It was a tale of 2 starts for Robert Carson tonight. There was the first inning, in which he surrendered 6 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits (thanks to a Jordany Valdespin error (about the only thing he's done wrong this season, lol)). And then there was the rest of his outing, in which he allowed a run on 6 hits in 5 innings. So while his total line looks putrid, it was one awful inning compounded by an error which did him in.

The offense certainly came to play, pounding out 11 hits and 5 runs, but the Gnats were 3 for 12 with RISP and left 7 on base. Valdespin, Eric Campbell and Jean Luc Blaquiere had multi hit games, while Rafael Fernandez (0 for 5, run, 4 Ks, .240), Josh Satin (0 for 4, 2 Ks, .370), and Jose Jimenez (0 for 3, 3 Ks, .050) all took 0-fers.

At the Ballpark: Savannah 4/24/09

Felt like Deja Vu all over again. I get to the game. I get to sit behind homeplate and I hear Carson is pitching. First thing that went through my mind was, "Oh crap." Because I was sitting behind homeplate when he was pitching against Augusta on Easter Sunday. Where he only last 2 and 2/3 of an inning. Sure enough in the first inning the Braves were hitting Carson's pitches like he was tossing them batting practice. But after the first was over he calmed down and only gave up 1 more run in the next 5 innings (6 innings, 12 hits, 5 earned runs, and 3 strikeouts)

Valdespin played SS tonight to give Flores the day off. In the first inning he made an error trying to make a double play. Besides that it was just a regular day playing Shortstop. On offensive he's been nothing but on fire. He went 3-5 with 3 singles and 1 strikeout. Now batting .397! There was a scary moment in the 3rd when he tried to score and slide in between the catchers legs when his leg twisted the wrong way and stayed on the ground for about a minute. He got up and started limping. But he stayed in the game and played like nothing happened. But because of that I don't think he'll be playing tomorrow.

On the other side of Valdespin's 3 for 5 Rafael Fernandez was 0-5 with 4 strikeouts and Jose Jimenez was 0-3 with 3 strikeouts. Now batting .050! Marte continues to struggle. He went 1-5

The Gnats are now 10-5

Jordany. Valdespin. Yeah, exactly, you're not supposed to know who he is (I barely do). He's 21 years old, and he is ripping it up in the early going, hitting a blistering .377/.393/.660/1.053 with 7 XBH in 53 ABs. He's a lefty batter who put up a pedestrian .284/.319/.440/.760 line in 134 ABs in the GCL last year, so to say he's come from nowhere is entirely accurate.

Aside from Valdespin, Josh Satin had the other multi hit game tonight, while Rafael Fernandez (0 for 4, 2 Ks, .267), Sean Ratliff (0 for 4, K, .281), Jefry Marte (0 for 3, 2 Ks, .268), Eric Campbell (0 for 3, run, BB, .255) and Jose Jimenez (0 for 2, K, .059) all took 0-fers.

Jeff Kaplan worked 5 shutout innings to pick up the win, he struck out 8. Rhiner Cruz picked up the save with a perfect 9th.

4/22 Minor League Report! Familia!

Buffalo 1, Scranton 6

Freddy Garcia allowed 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks in 6 inning in his first outing of the season, enough for the loss tonight, as the Bisons had another inept showing offensively, collecting 8 hits and a walk, but they were just 1 for 6 with RISP and left 7 on base.

Nick Evans' horrific nightmare continued in Buffalo with another 0-fer, with 2 more Ks. Rene Rivera (0 for 4, K, .222) and Jon Malo (0 for 4, 2 Ks, .146) also took 0-fers, while Cory Sullivan and Fernando Martinez had multi hit games.

Binghamton 4, Trenton 3

Dylan Owen's third outing of the season was decent, definitely a step up from his last one (3 ip, 7 h, 6 er). Tonight he went 5.2 innings, allowing 5 hits and 3 runs, walking 2 and striking out 6. Edgar Alfonzo went 1.1 innings to pick up the win, and Roy Merritt went 2 for the save. The Mets had just 4 hits in the game, but drew 7 walks, however, they were just 1 for 7 with RISP, and left 9 on base.

St. Lucie 0, Jupiter 11

Jenrry Mejia had a rough outing today, giving up 6 runs (5 earned) on 6 hits and 4 walks in 4.2 innings, and that combined with the Mets being 2 hit led to a very ugly 11-0 loss this morning. Matias Carrillo, Jose De La Torre and Emary Frederick all gave up runs in their outings behind Mejia, but it didn't much matter, as the offense mustered nothing all game long. Ike Davis (1 for 3, 2b, .280) and Brahiam Maldonado (1 for 3, .290) had the only hits for the Mets.

Jeurys Familia had yet another very strong outing for the Sand Gnats tonight, firing 6 innings of 2 hit 1 run ball to pick up his second win of the season, as Savannah won 4-2. Familia is now 2-0 with a sparkling 0.63 era in 3 outings (2 starts, 1 piggyback). The offense did enough to support him, but despite 11 hits and 3 walks, they were 2 for 10 with RISP and left 9 on base.

Jordany Valdespin, Wilmer Flores, Eric Campbell and Josh Satin all had multi hit games for the Gnats, while Jefry Marte and Juan Lagares (0 for 2, run, BB, .233) took the only 0-fers.

4/21 Minor League Report! Veloz, Havens!

I'm back, back again, Tej is back, tell a friend...

Buffalo 7, Scranton 3

The Bisons used a 4 run 8th to erase a 3-2 deficit and hand the Yankees their first loss of the season. Nick Evans nightmare season, however, continued, as he went 0 for 4 with another pair of Ks, he's now struck out 15 times in 45 ABs, and is rocking a .111 average and a sub .640 OPS. Ouch. Buffalo had just 5 hits on the game, but drew 6 walks, and were 3 for 8 with RISP. Andy Green (0 for 2, run, RBI, 2 BBs, K, .000), Nick Evans, Argenis Reyes (0 for 2, 2 runs, 2 BBs, K, .233) and Jose Coronado (0 for 3, run, K, .089) took 0-fers.

Dillon Gee started for the Bisons, and he was decent, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits over 5.1 innings. He did strike out 7, and both of his IHR were allowed to score by Ken Takahashi, on a hit, a WP and 2 walks. Elmer Dessens worked 2.1 innings for the win, and Carlos Muniz pitched a scoreless 9th.

Michael Antonini winded his way through 5 innings, allowing 7 hits and 4 runs, en route to a sloppy 8-5 victory. Eric Brown pitched the final inning, allowing a run on 2 hits.

The Mets offense had 5 hits and 3 walks, and also benefitted from 2 errors by the Thunder. They were 2 for 6 with RISP, and didn't leave any runners on base. St. Lucie 7, Jupiter 1

The Mets offense pounded out 12 hits and drew 4 walks en route to a 7-1 drubbing of Jupiter, but despite the 7 runs, they were just 2 for 12 with RISP, and left 9 men on base. Greg Veloz and Reese Havens were a combined 5 for 9 at the top of the order, and the 345 hitters did their job, driving in 5 of the 7 runs for the Mets. Carlos Guzman (0 for 5, K, .341), and Brahiam Maldonado (0 for 3, 2 Ks, .286) took 0-fers.

Nick Waechter (starting in place of Brad Holt, no news as of now about why), was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst, he worked 5 innings, allowing just a run and striking out 6 for his first win. Edgar Ramirez worked 3 innings of shutout relief, and Stephen Clyne pitched a scoreless 9th.

Savannah 4, Charleston 5

Josh Stinson got a start today, and it was a rough one, he surrendered 4 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings, to pick up the loss as Savannah lost an early morning game 5-4. However, it was Manuel Olivares who allowed the deciding run of the game, in the 5th inning, and also allowed all 3 of Stinson's IHR to score.

The Gnats had 7 hits and a walk, parlaying them into 4 runs, and they went 3 for 9 with RISP, and left just 3 men on base, but the pitching side let them down yesterday morning. Jordany Valdespin (0 for 3, run, BB, K, .341), Josh Satin (0 for 3, .371) and Raul Reyes (0 for 3, 2 Ks, .188) took 0-fers, while Jefry Marte had a multi hit game for the Gnats.

OK, I'm back from Kansas. Not to get in too deep, but it was the first time I'd actually seen like...an open casket with a person inside, it kinda throws you (even if you think it won't - it does). Especially when you remember that person so full of life earlier in your life. Anyway, moving on...I'd like to once more apologize for the lack of MLRs here during my absense, but I didn't have time to write em up over there, even if I had time to make occasional posts here, on the chat box, and on NYFS and MR.

Oh yes - keep checking in with the MR minor league forum, there's a poster there "Drucifer" who does great work with his minor league threads there, very spiffy. Savannah's game is over, btw, they lost 5-4. Wilmer went 1 for 4 with a double, Marte 2 for 4. I'll be back tonight with the MLR...

Couple questions from the chat box

Since for some reason I cannot post in the chat box right now (prolly some setting or something on my uncle's computer) - I'll make a new post and answer them here.

Jefry Marte was taken out of the game yesterday after a CS, but he was right back in there today DHing. He went 1 for 6, 2 runs, 2 RBI, 2 Ks, and is hitting .297 on the season (Savannah won 18-3).

Dock Doyle is currently injured.

Little update from me: Robert Carson good outing 6 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 3 Ks, got the win in Savannah's game.

Jordany Valdespin 2 for 5, 3 runs, 2 RBI, BB.
Wilmer 2 for 4, run, 2b, 3 RBI - was PH for in the 8th, up 11-0. Not sure about that, but you guys will probably have the news before I do, considering the circumstances. I'm really out of touch with most things baseball related right now.

OK - that's all from me. I wouldn't expect anymore posts from me until the 23rd, but you never know ;)

4-17 Minor League Report

Sorry bout that guys, have been pretty busy the last couple days.

Buffalo lost 3-1, nothing really of note.
Fernando went 1 for 4, Fossum pitched 6 great innings, and Kunz gave up 2 runs in 2 IP, with 2 K's.
